Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is internationally recognized as a violation of the human rights of girls and women, reflecting deep-rooted inequality between sexes. Since FGM is almost always carried out on minors, it is a violation of the rights of children (WHO, 2012).

According to the World health Organization, FGM comprises all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.

• Clitoridectomy: partial or total removal of the clitoris.
• Excision: partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minor, with or without excision of the labia majora.
• Infibulation: narrowing of the vaginal opening through the creation of a covering seal.
• Others: all other harmful procedures to the female genitalia for non-medical purposes, e.g; pricking, scraping and cauterizing the genital area.
